Hey fellas,
Anyone know if there's a way to check an old starter from this era of tractor ( like with a voltage meter set to ohms should read a specific ohms maybe?) Thanks Matt |

maybe open up the 'brush inspection' portal...see what's inside but really I'd just clamp in vice, see if it mechanically spins with my fingers,. if yes,us jumper cables and spare 12V battery and see if it spins.... NO regular 'meter' will really tell you 'yes or no'...

The only way to tell its condition and operation accurately is on an 881 machine (or equivalent machine) that your local rebuilder may have to see how it functions and what its torque output would be... Ten outta' ten Starters and Generators that come in my shop are tired and worn out. When I get done with them, there good for another long round of service.

I have 12 or more B/C/CA used 6 volt starters to be checked so I can sell them with some kind of Guarantee . Was going to scrap them . They all came off Tractors I Parted out.
What do they sell for in working condition? I have not sold any yet The one on my CA has a solenoid and cranks on 12 volts. Most of the 12 on the shelf have mechanical switches. |
