Fellas,
We've got 3 220s and a 210.... all with 3500 + or - hrs. Every single one of them steers like garbage under about half throttle. If I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all but I cannot be the only one with this problem. All the other hydraulic functions on the tractors work great at any rpm except the steering. Anyone have experience with this? Do my pumps need rebuilt or do you think it could be a power steering cylinder seal kit? Open to suggestions. Thanks

Turns hard? with more effort on your part?? Sounds like a sticking/stuck flow divider spool on the rear section of the pump first. Then, rebuild the pump if that doesn't cure it.

yep doc... just turns real hard. speed the throttle up to over half and shes one finger all the way

Pull out the spool and polish it until it's free sliding in the bore. Big hex nut on the rear section of the pump.

also can you spin the wheel ez with the engine off ? If so there is a check 1/4" ball that can stick or be missing in the back section. This is to block off the ports to allow for manual steering when the tractor/pump is off. I had one with a piece of metal under it that was causing an issue... rare, but if you have to tear the pump down check it out - took me a day to find the issue.. bet your issue is what the good Dr. has diagnosed.. One other issue - is there ever any jerking or noise in the system? If so the front seal can get hard and dry and allow air in - and cavitation results - along with some time to 'bleed ' the system..

I had the same situation with one of the 220's so put the pump from the 210 on it. worked good....for a while and then did the same thing. Rest of the hyd works good but seems to have a by-pass noise in the hyd control valves. Linkage all seems loose. Since the old pump seemed tired, thinking the relief valve/valves my have been adjusted as an attempt to get more life?? Or??? Kind of a kicker because the competition always remark about the one finger steering....Thanks...Dale

My 220 was that way when I got it. Went to put seal kit in it and too late! Backup spacer behind wear plate had break in it and had bypassed so much oil it ate out the wall supporting it. Put new pump on and can turn wheel at idle with one finger. Check relief pressure after fixing.If turned up to compensate for low pressure you can split the housing of a good pump.

flow divider spool slides in and out super smooth. guess im going to pull the pump and rebuild to see if it helps.... original paint and the sections have not been apart so I am guessing its original

Be sure to put a scribe mark at an angle on the backside of the pump so you KNOW how it goes back together.

I put a kit in F2 hydraulic pump and made a HUGE difference! Hopefully you will have same experience.

figured id update for anyone following along.... started with the basics.... that spool moved real smooth so I decided to drain the oil and see if that screen was plugged in the bottom. it sure was. don't know how I was getting any oil flow at all. I doubt if it had ever been apart. put things back together and things seemed a littler better but still not 100%. pulled the pump and found the o rings pretty well dried up and junk. gonna fire her up after I get the electrical done for the lights on the fenders... (took the cab off) she will be swanky by the time its done. I bet this weekend I will wish I still had the cab!!!
