The crankshaft seal on my 58 D14 has been leaking for the last several years - finally getting around to fixing it.  Does the timing cover need to be removed to yank out the old one and put a new one in?  Just wondering if I need to order a timing cover gasket to go along with it.

I would remove front plate just to center it on crankshaft.      MACK

To do it right, you will also need to remove the oil pan. This will allow you to get the front cover properly positioned without interference from the oil pan.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

On a series II D15 I drilled a couple small holes in the seal 180 degrees apart, threaded in a metal screw and pulled the seal out. The old seal was a lot deeper than the new on I purchased from Maple Lane Farm  Equipment, Mount forest.

..maybe do the left diff seal as well, ?? Wink

Toasty warm in here too with the oil furnace!  Plenty of ACs getting my attention:  Brakes and other little things on the 185, getting my freebee B110 running, and the D14.  That's a tempting offer you have though!
