My 1966 Allis 190Xt has a non working unreadable traction booster gauge in the upper right hand corner of the instrument panel. As much as I would like to keep it all original I don’t want to spend a $100 on a new gauge just to have it go bad a few months down the road. Does anyone know where to buy a pressure gauge that will fit in the hole and hook up just like the original tb gauge ?

The hole is a standard guage hole. I took mine out and put a oil pressure guage in the same hole. When you take the traction booster guage out. It slides out of the clamp mount and any guage that size will fit. The local surplus store had Liguria damped 0 - 5000 psi gauges the same size. I'd bet if you remove the guage you could sores one localy. I personally have no use for the traction booster guage and got a allis oil pressure guage from stiener.

How do those traction boost gauges work? I think I read that some CA's had them but mine doesn't?

It's just a hydraulic pressure guage. It's hooked to the front corner of the hydraulic pump. It registers the pressure being put out to the lift cylinders. When in th action boost mode on your pump pressure to the snap coupler implement is controlled to lift slightly increasing ground pressure on your rear tires. Basicly if your not pulling a snap coupler plow with your hydraulic pump set for traction booster does nothing.

Traction booster gauge was on the steering column support I believe on the CA. As far as your XT, putting an oil pressure gauge in place of your traction booster gauge is a good idea. They should have came with one from the factory instead of an idiot light IMO. You have a great location with the series I dash. I bought mine thru Sandy Lake. I choose the after market gauge as I could not bring myself to spend $120 for an Agco gauge. After market looks like the real deal and was around $39 if I remember correctly. 80 psi gauge. My series II did not have the traction booster gauge so i mounted mine down next to the starter. I have a great view of the gauge as I do field work. I put a tee in the line so I still have the idiot light also.

Bob, I’m sorry, I thought you was referring to replacing the traction booster gauge with a oil pressure gauge. Unless your doing tillage work, and using a traction booster hitch, I’m not sure that the traction booster gauge will come in to play. Others on here will know more than I. I can say that the addition of the oil pressure gauge has given me piece of mind as I can easily monitor oil pressure instead of relying on a light.

The Traction Booster gauge for a 190 would probably be a 2500 psi gauge, as the hydraulic system was considered "low pressure". The older tractors from the WD45 thru the series 3 D-17 would have been a higher pressure gauge, probably 3500 to 4000 psi because their hydraulic systems were that high on actual pressure. The S4 D-17 uses the same Traction Booster gauge as a 190......p/n 70241727.
