Topic: CA Fuel Tank?Posted: 06 Aug 2018 at 8:00am |

I am needing a fuel tank for my CA. Will a tank from a B or C work? My tank is not beyond repair, but if I could find a good tank that is the route I would go. There was a CA tank on Ebay last week, but I missed out on it. None of the tractor salvage yards close to me has one either. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tim

My CA tank has a dimple in the bottom on the right side to clear the starter switch. My C did not.

Dave is right. The B/C tanks will interchange, however, the starter mechanism is different. Have seen this were someone has also used the B/C starter rod/solenoid rocker when mounting the B/C tank on a CA.

My '51 B has the dimple under the tank for the starter switch mounted on top of the starter, so I bet later year Bs (that overlap with CA production) will interchange.

Is there anyway to take the tank apart to get the dents out of it?

That seems too complicated- cutting and welding. Find someone with a stud gun (or rent one) and slide hammer, pull the dents out as much as you can, fill what remains with fiberglass reinforced filler, then skim with a little regular filler.
Heck, maybe a paintless dent guy can do it, but they are usually working on much thinner metal.

The bottom is gone on mine, I started to work the dent out of it and the bottom has rusted almost through. The tractor had set for a big part of it's life with fuel in the tank. I bought the tractor from the original owners son and he had it running, but the tank was pretty crusty inside. I am using it to mow with, but have to stop and clean the sediment bowl frequently. I had taken the tank off and strapped it to my WD45 rear wheel with some chain in it, but the bottom was so thin it dented in when I strapped it tight. Live and learn I guess.

Yep sounds like you have done every thing you can for that tank. And it provided years of service too. So time for a good used tank. I haven't heard to many folks replacing half of the tank. There a lot of them out there sounds like a couple folks have them in this thread. Good luck and post some pictures. This may get me started on my WD45 tanks setting waiting for me to clean up.
Always thought I should have a narrow front CA in the family too.
