At the annual Steam and Gas Engine Show in Pawnee, OK was this Bull tractor. Edit: The Bull was the inspiration for the Allis 10-18. Probably aren't too many of these around.

I wish I hadn't forgot about the Pawnee show this last weekend, I might have made plans to go... its about the closest show there is close to me...

Is that so, Michael? That's still quite the drive for you! I guess that's one good thing about being at college...the show is only about 30 minutes away from the campus! I'll try to remember to remind you next year. Maybe you can make it.

yea, it is about the closest, I don't really count the little antique tractor pull and show at Dalhart in august,, I took my WD to Pawnee when the GOTO was there in 2005,,, I got invites for the next year or so, then they quit sending them..

Creston as far as I know the Bull tractor company first organized in 1908 and after the involvment of several companies including Minneapolis Steel and Machinery,Toro and Gile engine company they finally went out of business in 1920. They had no dealings with AC. One interesting item about them is with one drive wheel the hitch was off-set to the right side next to the drive wheel and when pulling a load and turning to the right they tipped over on their side very easily. the company fix for this problem was to install a stick on a hinged bracket at the top of the fender that was suposed to swing out as the machine tipped and "catch" it from falling on it's side.

That’s interesting. You’re probably right about that. What I posted was just something I had heard, and thought to be true. I figured since the Bull and 10-18 were somewhat similar, perhaps the story was correct. Both machines have the 2 cylinder opposed engine, which I think is neat.

In 1914 they led the tractor industry by selling 3800 tractor between april and december for a price of $335. The fact that they had unsatisfactory performance soon caught up to them and in 1917 placed 7th. One thing I often think about is the poor farmer who saved and often bought on credit and could end up with a dud such as the Bull was, while a neighbor across the road bought a good tractor with a dealer to support them.

The family he got this bull from said that one field was on a hill side. It would only plow down hill and had to dead head back to the top because it didnt have enough power to plow uphill........

Wow, I wonder how steep the hill was? None of the hills I've ever seen in cultivation in Oklahoma are very steep.
Another question: What's the arrow on the front for? I'm thinking it does more than just tell you what direction you're going...

I think Allis was sued over the 10-18 design if I remember right what I read..... Seems it was either Bull or Moline that sued them.

Just indicates the direction of the wheel. You cant really see the front when sitting on the tractor. The hill wasnt very steep. Those tractors wwrw junk. Thats why nebraska tractor tests were created because of poorly built tractors. He has literature showing how you could put the bull in the furrow and engage the clutch, step off and let it travel to the other side by itself. Then your friend would at the other end would jump on and turn it around in the other furrow and send it back. Dale said its fun to try until it quita half way across

Don't the steering gear rotate 360° on them. There used to be one near me, it sold at auction about 20 yrs ago.

I think Moline sued them over the 6-12 and won. Not sure on the 10-18.
