Greetings all! I am the proud new owner of an Allis Chalmers WD and a bit of a newb but I have been checking this forum out quite often to read up. I have inherited this tractor from my grandfather so it has some sentimental value. Anyhow, it came without a carburetor and have looked but couldn’t find what seems to be the best one for my application. I don’t know the year of the tractor but from what I understand it may not matter between the Zenith or the MS brand carbs? I may be wrong in assuming but who knows. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated and I will read more on forums to see educate myself on more basic newb information! Thank you in advance!

Some say that Zenith bites. Some say that MS bites. What do you prefer, a Ford or Chevy? There seems to be a more universal dislike for Holley, but I don't think any Wd's came with those. The WD I was familiar with has a MS and occasionally it would flood during cold winter starts. The slave driver cussed the MS and said a Zenith would be a better carb, but I suspect it started hard because of his own incompetence.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the wonderful world of orange. You've come to the right place for info on anything AC. Like you, my WD was originally owned by my grandfather. Mine has the Marvel carb. It is a simple carb which works really well. No problems with it. I don't have experience with the Zenith, so can't help there.
You can find out more about the year by checking the serial number. It is located on the back of the rear axle just to the left of the differential. Once you have the number you can look up the year on the chart elsewhere on this site. http://www.allischalmers.com/serials.html Have fun, good luck, and don't hesitate to ask anything about you new toy. This forum is full of very knowledgeable guys that love orange.

I;ve got two WD's. One with the Zenith and one with the Marvel. Nothing to chose between them. Both work fine. Now on the Allis 'B', I find that the Zenith seems to give less trouble than the Marvel. Just my own experience.

For the WD,WF, & WC, the most popular Carburetor is the Zenith 9707, 9707A, or 9707C. The Marvel version is usually either the TSX159, or the TSX422 in my experience with all the rebuilding I do for our customer's. I have a 9707C ready to go if interested. I also have a TSX422 that is on the assembly bench to put back in stock once completed so I could help you out with either Carburetor....

See above post, Steve knows his stuff. The Marvel seems to be less trouble in the opinions of most people I've talked to.
