My new to me tractor has a problem. Shifter popped out of position when shifting 2nd to 4th. Took out the snap ring and thin ring below it. Shifter looks great end-wise and no wear in slots or square ended alignment pivot pins. My question is the thin ring. It came out with the flat side down away from the snap ring. I suspect it should be flipped over with flat side against snap ring. Or is it in correctly?

Flipping it over will allow more up-down play in the shift tower. Sounds like you have plenty already.

my wd 45 had a couple of shims, they looked like bent washers, to keep it tight.  but if you shifted into 4th quick the shifter would still pop out.  I just stopped using 4th...lol
Just cause it's orange don't make it a tractor, there's only one..Allis Chalmers

Put it together right and shim if necessary. If the bottom "ball end" of the shifter is wore it can add to this problem. JMO If it's like the ring on the B, it has a radius built in to match the shift lever pivot .
