Saturday I was mowing with the C that has the Woods mower under it. The Clutch seemed to have a funny sound when it engaged. Kind of a snapping. When I was about as far away from the house as I could be the racket started and it wouldn't pull itself. I managed to get to the house without a walker and took the Farmall C back and drug it up.
By the time I got it into position with the lift over the engine then spent two hours looking for my lift bracket. I gave up and an hour later I had another one to use and loose. By the time I took care of horses it was close to dark.
Told Dixie that I had a new clutch and pressure plate in the shed and in two hours I would have it repaired. Ya right! Once up on a time! The rear seal was leaking a bit and I had also bought a speedy sleeve some time in the past which I had seen a coupla days ago.
Five hours later I had the lip seal in and the new clutch and pressure plate all installed and the tractor started ready to mow. Let the clutch out and it snapped like it had. I drove it a few feet and put it in reverse and backed it up hearing the snap every time. Put it in low, engaged the power take off and went about six feet and it stopped pulling itself with all the racket it had when I thought it was the clutch. Now it has to be the drive shaft coupling at the transmission. I have a couple good drive shafts but this time I have to remove the Woods mower first to split it at the transmission.
The old clutch didn't look like it was bad enough to cause a problem. I put the transmission in gear and put lots of torque on the drive shaft while I had it split and it held fine. I tried to pull the drive shaft forward and it wouldn't move. I had a cotter key in it when I put it together so I am not sure what I will find.
I was able to do most to the clutch work from stools and walker seat. Not sure how the back side will work out.
