Tracy, someone else may answer better but there is a lot of conditions that make a huge change in requirements .weight of the tractor and tire condition ,also is the pitch adjustable on the disc? I got a case (Burch)offset 12 ft wide ,26 inch blades.8010 is not enough at 100 up and 13000 lbs. 210 got the power but needs more tires. I am looking for duals now. 8010 will pull it. But a little more than it needs. Soil condition had a lot to do with it also. There may be a scientific answer but that is the best I can give. The hills and the clay here is something else. Scott

Tracey,
Years ago, it was noted generally at 10hp per foot. At least. And that seemed to hold pretty well right on. Our XT's pulled the 10/11' "plowing disc" good with weighted drive tires & duals on. We knew that something was back there, too.

Lot depends on how fast and with each pass it takes more HP. I have a Massey Harris
9ft offset disk and it'll give the D19 all it wants. |

Being soft ground you will probabaly want duals on what ever you use.

I took the gangs off of an Oliver 232 12' disk. I mounted two gangs as an offset disk using some 4" wide flange steel beams under the main frame. I pulled it for years with my MF-135. It pulled as hard as the 2x 16 Case plow that I have. That was in freshly spring plowed black soil.
Years later an old timer neighbor told me it was beneficial to pull a disk 8 or 9 mph because at that speed the disk would toss weeds up in the air and they would land bare root on top the ground a dry out the roots and die. By that time I was working the ground with my 4020 and I acquired a 20 or 24 foot disk with folding wings. I used parts from the wings to rebuild the center gangs leaving it about 14' and it was a good load for the 4020 at 9 mph. I had to lock the differential to keep the 4020 from hopping side to side. And the answer is, 20 HP, like a ferd has will pull it. 25 is better fer speed, and 35 better still...

A few years back we pulled dad's 14 foot Bush Hog offset to break up some bottom ground sod. Put it on the JD 4440, like new tires, duals, and 1000 lbs. on each rear wheel. It was a little wet but we had to get the job done. You could just barely feel it but it was pulling the tractor off in one direction while it worked. He always told me that disc had a tendency to want to corkscrew as it went through the field. I don't know though, I never ran it myself. I guess you may want to think about your tractor weight situation, depending on the job. Just my thoughts though.

This is an Oxnard built AC offset disc. Looks like it will cut the ground well. I figured if the 170-175 wouldn't pull it, the 185 would. Thanks Tracy

We pulled a 18' offset with a 160hp 4wd tractor. It pulled a lot harder than the white 24'. But was ok.
160 divided by 3 would be 53. A little under 10hp per foot. So I bet the 175 would pull it. Like you said 185 would for sure |

Speed and discs never mix ever. Speed and field cultivators or finishers is a better combination.

Whoops, mis-read the post, thought it was a regular 4 gang disc... Needs at least a 185...

I had a Miller 10.5 ft off set disc and on my hills it made my 8050 w fwa work! The guy I got it from pulled it with a 6080 fwa and a 190 with duals. When I told him I was gonna pull it with the 8050 he laughed and said your gonna pull the disc apart! Well he had all black flat ground and I got hardpan hills. With the 8050 in front I was able to move it to full angle and it sure was aggressive cutting.

Let the drawbar swing if it has a swinging drawbar. If you clamp it down it will make the tractor pull sideways

If you go 8 mph you better not have any rocks, around here it would last 1/2 an hour and be destroyed.

My dad pulls an 7 1/2' Case offset (24" blades I think) with a 190, used to pull it with a 175 diesel but it was a workout. It all depends on the soil, heavier soil needs more power.
