My 190XT is running a little rough. I went through the usual suspects; fuel treatment, filter, sediment bowls, etc. It still runs a little off. It isn't bad and sometimes I have to listen for it. It seems to be more pronounced when asking for power and when going down a hill it is barely noticeable. I also put some Dextron through it and drilled out the check valve in the return line in the top of the pump and still no different. I also tried adjusting the timing but that's not it either.
My questions are; Should I replace all of the injectors before I have the pump rebuilt? And; is it going to hurt the tractor to run it like it is in the mean time? I appreciate any help on this. Thanks! Luke

obviously the best would be to have the pump and injectors serviced by a competent shop. If doing only one first, then with a miss-fire situation, I'd do the injectors first. If you continue running it with a dripping injector, it can score a piston/sleeve. Are you sure the mis-fire is not a mechanical issue, like valves? Check the lash, and make sure the pushrods are all still seated in the rockers. I've seen a few times where a rocker comes off the pushrod, and they chase a miss thinking its fuel related.

Thank you. I will check out what you said. If I need to have my pump rebuilt is there someone you suggest? I imagine I would have to send it away. I don't think I have any place local I can have it worked on.

Seeing that you already drilled out the check valve, it would be best to have the pump rebuilt sooner than later.

If you have to send it away, may as well send it to Ed. I learned a hard expensive lesson doing otherwise. Darrel

One of the things I've learned since being a member of the forum is that dealing with the forum sponsors not only supports the guys that support our forum, but they also care enough to offer technical assistance and other help when you need it. Without exception, they seem to be a very reputable bunch. After all, they bleed orange, like the rest of us!
Since most of the tractors I fool with are older gas engines, I haven't dealt with Ed, but when I read the recommendations of everyone on here, next year when I redo my 185, he will be the guy I go to for injector and pump work. |

I'll give another vote for Ed. Very fair and has forgotten more about these tractors than most of us will ever know! I sent mine to him and we have a couple of good local shops (that have been bought out by big chain companies now...).
