My father and I have been dealing with a nasty oil leak since we rebuilt our wd45 a little over a year ago. It usually leaks about a pint of oil from the time we leave our trailer weighted up to the time we return back to the trailer in between classes. It is a big pain in the a$$ adding oil between each class and it needs to stop. We have replace the actual rear main seal twice, and the oil pan gaskets probably 6 to 7 times with still no luck. We have looked at the end of the crank it is fine, nothing is coming out of it. The oil actually leaks out right infront of the flywheel where the oil pan goes around the rear main cap and make the moon shape if you will. Now I know not to cut them, but I do not know what we could be repeatedly doing wrong. I was wondering if the hole in the rear main cap shown in the picture below is a return hole for oil to go back down in the pan, and if so could that be where our problem lies? I don't if a guy could be putting the gasket to far forward, causing oil from that hole to build up and leak between the gasket and the pan. I just have no idea what is going on and any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

There are two small F shaped gaskets that go under the rear main bearing cap. If they aren't in there it might leak. I always use gasket material on them to be sure that they seal.

That crankshaft appears to be stroked somewhat.......more than 5 inches???

So that front seal that gies around the crank. Do you put the front cover on and install it only by shoving it in the with pvc pipe? Or should it already be in there when we install it?

Front seal needs to be installed in cover before bolting up, make sure cover and seal are centered on crank so one side of seal doesn't wear down and leak. As far as rear main, the F gaskets are important but not as important as the glob of RTV you put in the corners where the seal meets the pan gasket. That's the only opening big enough to spew out a pint of oil in that short a time. Don's video is very clear on this

If the rear plug is leaking, I'd remove it and make positively sure the drain hole to that cavity is open and not plugged. Should be able to shove a piece of mechanics wire thru it to be sure it's open, and don't plug it again with too much goo to seal the plug. Seal the plug externally.

Well we didn't even have the F gaskets in it, so there is a start. And the moon shape gasket had indian head not just in the corners, but everywhere, so they may have caused it as well. To be honest after watching that video its no wonder the thing leaked as much as it did. We decided to wait a little while before we put it back together because we might put new pistons and rings in. Have not totally decided yet so until she'll set. Thanks for all the help though, that video was a very good description of how to do it and like I said we did more than one thing wrong, so i'd say just the combination of things caused it to leak so badly.
