Did you just change the rear end filters? Putting the small filter bypass valve in on the wrong end or leaving it in the old filter will cause that because the internal check valve in the housing isn't open far enough. I would think it would affect more but that seems to be where it shows up first.

steering wheel feels somewhat tight when turning and makes a growling noise-changed diff filters in 2013.

To eliminate a possible mechanical issue, jack up each front wheel and pump gun grease into each spindle until grease runs out the top and bottom. While both front wheels are off the ground, see if your steering wheel noise is still there or not.

since grease didn't come out the bottom of the spindle I assumed something wrong-I had greased the spindles in the last month-so no I have not done anything yet.

I would assume the grease is taking the path of least resistance- up and out the top. Find some way to plug up the top so the grease has nowhere to go but down. That's how I do the tail wheel spindle on my brush hog.
