wondering if anybody has used any of the aftermarket gears out there. Is there any aftermarket gears other than A&I.

I used them in my trans rebuild. my tractor is used mostly for chore type jobs not heavy tillage everyday though. it has pulled my 4-16 plow in 5th and pulled down the motor in heavy gumbo ground. also pulled at local tractor pull. i cannot say as to longevity, as it has only been rebuilt for a year. i had not heard anything bad about the gears before i installed them and so far i am happy. i replaced 2nd, 3rd, and input shaft as well as the shift collars. my tractor had a loader on in and was used very hard.
link to my teardown post with pics BTW. this is not a cheap job whether you do it yourself or especially if you have someone do it for you. I did all my own work. With the gears and couplers and replacing every seal and gasket on the rear end from AGCO. over $1000 just in parts. just the gears from AGCO were going to run approx $1500 if i remember correctly.

Don't just change the gears when you are in there. I have found that sloppy bearings contribute to the gear jumping problem. If you can move the input shaft up and down and side to side, those bearing need replacing! I've noticed that in all 3 of the transmissions I've had rebuilt.

we used a&i in our series 3 last year and no problems so far. I know it got first and third ans the collars, some other good used original stuff too. we started out to do it ourselves but then got short on time(and kinda wimped out). ended up pulling the rear assembly out with the finals and wheel centers still on it and dropped it off with bill at sandy lake imp. they had it fixed in about a week for around $2000( I think)and most of that was parts. you can save a lot of money doing the grunt work yourself and letting someone who had been in there before do the detail stuff.

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!
