Anyone have a PDF manual?
Need to drain and refill the transmission. How much oil for just that reservoir? |

There are two drain plugs. One directly behind the battery box and the other to the left of the PTO shaft and forward four inches. The amount it takes depends upon which dipstick is being used. This is related to 2-pinion or four pinion differentials, which is a 50/50 deal....it either has it or it doesn't. Go by the dipstick....8 to 10 gallons serves my memory. The hydraulic system(two more drain plugs) takes 5 gallons plus more for a filter.

OK thank you.
Seems we had some water get in the transmission via the shifter (missing the little o-ring seal). This is the right side dipstick (At your right foot) The Left side dipstick does not show any contamination. This is a Series II per serial, so a 2 Pinion. I read on Tractordata that the transmission hold 38 qts but I didn't know it that was just the tranny or combo of the tranny/PD

I saw a note that after serial 23000, it gets 38 qts instead of 32.
At this serial was a transmission fix. What was this? or what was fixed/corrected at the factory?

Also since the oil is milky, what is the best way to flush? I hate to put $100 in oil in it and then it again a few weeks later since all the water didn't drain out.

Charlie, whenever I flush something I have always used kerosene. Flushes clean and drains real good. Hope it doesn't take a double dose. Leon R Cmo

What Leon said or I use diesel fuel. Let it drain real good and then you're only putting oil in it once. I'm not aware of the update on the tranny on the 190 XT, sorry. Sounds like a lot more oil in the tranny though! LOL! Rick

You cannot depend on the serial number to determine 2-pinion or 4-pinion. Many thousands of pre-23001 tractors had 4-pinions installed after a failure and then got a different dipstick, raising the oil level.

The one you have pictured same area isn't a drain. Look foward at the bottom of the hydraulic screen.

I was mainly looking at the rear end to see if it is a 4 pinion or not.
I didn't look at the PD/Hyd portion for a drain. Does that give enough info to determine if it was changed to 4 pinion? Also on the rear right side is some stamped numbers (Not cast) to the right of the PTO housing. Do these relate to anything?

This was not correct. Series III was serial 2300 The transmission "Fix" was in 1966. Still not sure what that was.

Charlie, those stamped numbers are likely the ones that are used for setting the snap ring thickness in the rear end for the pinion depth dimension.

The fix consisted of a shift lever new breather, Oring and dipstick that's 1" shorter.there are no external clues weather it's been changed to a 4 pinion or not. If you want to know you need to pull the PTO housing and look. Don't let the engagement coupling drop or you'll cause lots more work. You could just run it and not worry about it. Lots of 2 pinion tractors are still working without a problem. If your tractor has been overweighted and turned up you either have it or your going to need the 4 pinion upgrade. But that's not the only part that breaks when a tractor is pushing more power than it was designed for.

To bad they didn't stamp an X or something at the end of the serial to indicate the change.

The raised oil level dipstick tip was cut off at a 45 degree angle. The old dipstick was square cut.
