Would any of you share some pictures of your D17 Series IV with an Alternator conversion? How did you deal with the power steering pump belt? I have a GM alternator to put on it. I'm going to guess a guy would have to use the long snout pulley off of the original generator. Any info would be great!

Just have the generator and regulator checked and rebuilt at a local shop. Will be as good as new. No modifications needed.

A-C gen pulley and leave the fan off of the alt. Notch the tensioner so it will raise up high enough.

Consider a smaller alternator. You don't need an 80 amp alternator when your old generator could barely put out 20 amps. A 10SI is a large alternator. Consider an alternator from a small 1980s import car.

In most cases, the pulley off the Gennie will fit the Alternator. Both units should have a .670 shaft. Should be good ta' go there. You could go with a pint size Alternator, but the problem you have to watch is shaft diameter unless you move to Delco's CS121 Alt. A lot of the foreign pint size Alternators, the standard Delco pulley or the pulley you have will probably be to large for the shaft. Another problem that comes into play is the 5/8" pulley vs the 1/2" pulley if your Tractor is equipped with the wider belt. Couple a things to take into consideration..HTH

This was my series III when I bought it. All it took was a cutting torch, a welder, an alternator, what I think was a bracket for a fog light, some wire and electrical tape and not caring what it looked like when you're done.
Now it has been patched up and a generator is back on it. |

Good you hear you put it back to original Dave! I don't see the need for an alternator. Generators have served these tractors very well for the past 50 years!

I wish the price of a regulator wasn't as much as 2 alternators.

For a voltage regulator??? I'd go to a different place. Better yet, talk to Steve at B&B. |
