 Topic: spreading litter w/ 7080

 Took a second today to snap a picture of the 7080 w/ my Hagedorn spreader applying some litter at the on farm this morning while it was still semi clean before going to spread dairy manure for a customer. Still havent gotten a chance to put the duals on I got from RAiken but she sure does move.

I'll bet you need that big 7080 to pull the load of well stuff around the field.

How many ton in a load? Do you really need that big of a tractor for that spreader?

How do you like the hagedorn spreader for manure?Some here had John Deere Hydrapush and did not like them.I always had Knight slinger spreader worked great except for pen packed.A spreader that big will work a 7080 just pulling it down the road also a big tractor does not bounce as bad on the road and stops better.I have seen farmers try to pull big spreaders with smaller tractors and have disasters like broken drawbars,rollovers, and being pulled off the road when getting over for on coming traffic.Manufaturer's are now require to put hydraulic brakes on the big spreaders for safety.

After checking the Hagedorn website I find my estimate was off by 150bu. The spreader should hold 550bu. struck which is still a lot of weight,solid manure weighs approximately 77.4 lbs. to the bu. with the spreader holding 550 struck the weight of the manure would be 21.28 ton. my source is Iowa State University tips for spreader calibration.

When hauling dry litter Weights are roughly 7-8 ton like what u see loaded now and for wetter pen pack 14-15 ton. As far as compared to side slingers there is no comparison- the hagedorn does a very even job and spreads anything from lime, litter, pen pack to very sloppy manure

The knight side slingers are excellent machines. When it comes to hydra push spreaders I believe H&S builds the best one alot of little differences over other brands that make it easier to work on and alot less likely to have problems due to the placement of the drive gearboxes. Just my thoughts though.

The website is out of date- this one is a 5290 the smaller if u can call it
that of the 2 vertical beater models. The thing I don't like about the side slingers is the spread pattern bc they don't spread as even and the augers will allow the pen pack to bridge up and not feed nice but to each his own- plus a 40' + spread pattern really covers acres quick
