this has been talked about before, but I can't find it or remember why: what is the difference (well I know the difference by looking at them), but why the slat plows over the solid? or why was the slat plow made?

For my uncle and I the slat moldboard allowed the gumbo clay to slide off the board and not stick. In the sandier ground it worked great too.
You don't really have to be smart if you know who is!

Less moldboard = less sticking, less friction and easier pulling.

I think they were used around here for muck ground.

My understanding is the advent of poly moldboards made the slat bottom obsolete.

I have a 73 SC plow w/ regular moldboards set for 16in.I had another 73 plow W/ slats set the same as far as pulling them I couldn't tell much difference. But the slats were no good for turning sod up hill.

I had the chance to buy a 3-pt mounted 4-btm slat plow,, but passed as I didn't know if they were a specialty plow or not!
