What is the best way to remove old decals and keep the original paint? Thanks for your ideas. Jon

Thanks for the suggestion, my real problem is that the decals are original on a 185 and really cracked. I guess that means just more time and patience.

3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

Beware though on the decal remover spray cans...they also have a spray that will not only take off the decals, but the paint as well!  Rick

Yes you can get an eraser wheel however they can do some damage to anything that isn't cleared. A heat gun is probably your best bet. Be careful about what solvents you use too. 3m adhesive remover is pretty good about removing the left over residue but be sure to test a spot first to see if it removes the paint.

I don't think I would try any spray decal remover and the heat gun will not work on these old cracked decals as they are some good old tough decals to try to remove. I tried just about everything including the eraser wheel and the only thing that worked for me was to sand them off with the sander and 80 grit sand paper. You have to double tape off the edge of the old decal with green painters tape so you don't damage the good paint on the hood. Take your time and be careful doing this. Work on a small section at a time and walk away from it for a while so you don't get burned out. I have new exact size replacement decals that will cover where the old ones where down to a tee so most people won't even know you changed the decals out if you are interested.
