How rare is a d15 diesel? What is the value of one in rough shape. ie rough sheetmetal but mechanically sound.

I believe they are rare , Im not positive but dont think to many were made , and AC didnt mess with it too much, I know of a sweet one settin in a shed , all dolled up from the factory yet ; it will be mine !!! Not sure what its worth, but it can all be painted up !! Someone will know

I have a D-15 Series I diesel. They are fairly rare but a Series II is much more rare. The engines are 2/3 or a D-17 262. The main reason the the Series II diesels are more rare is they sayed at 36 hp and the gas jumped to 46 hp. and it cost more money than the gas. If someone was to put a little turbo on a series II diesel, it could become 2/3 of a D-19d and have 46 hp.

957 Series I Diesels, 1094 Series II according to Swinford's book. I have a Series I SN 5740, Series II SN 16179 and a Series II Hi Clearance SN 23050, all diesels.

Mine is a series 1. I have the wide and narrow front ends, and what i think is a after market 3 point. Was power steering an option. I hope to do total restoration one day.

Mine all have PS, but I according to my D15 brochure from back in the day, 3 point, remote ram, operation meter, 3 spool control valve and power steering all were options.

I looked at a D15 series II diesel a couple of months ago. It was rare and the owner knew it. If it was in good shape, we probably could have worked out a deal. However, it was very tired and he would not drop his price. He ended up selling it for $750 more than I offered. It was a 1964. According to Norm's book, only 138 were made that year.
Who knows, maybe I'll stumble upon another one some day...

They are highly sought after by collectors. Series I diesels are out there if you look around, but Series II diesels are downright rare. The smart ones bought the diesels up 20-25 years ago when nobody wanted them (at least in this area). I know of a decent Series I that sat on a dealer's lot for ages priced around $2k. Not anymore! I haven't kept up with prices lately, but I recall a nice original Series II that sold in the $7k range on eBay about six years ago. A few Series II diesels come to mind that have popped up on the forum over the years: excellent originals owned by BurtIA and JM in KY, and a nicely restored unit owned by Kevin(WA).
