i think the L is left and the 59 is right. you can tell by the way the belt is routed. (disclaimer i think).

L59 last left handed threads in the spindle to hold the left handed blades on. 59 has right handed threads and right handed blades. Looking down on the mower the L59 has to turn counter clockwise  and the 59 turns clockwise.

With 5 acres to mow, why are you even looking at a 59/L59? I would think you would be looking at the 306 for your B.

I think the 59L was made to fit early Kubotas...

Very little difference between the two. As stated the blades turn the opposite directions. They mow in front of both rear tires on a B but only one under a C. The 306 mows in front of both rear tires under a C.

I mowed 8 acres a week with a L59 under a B for several years plus mulching down manure on my hay fields a few times a summer. My Grandson mows the 4 acres at the farm with his batwing mower now that he farms the ground.

Thanks Dick.  I checked into new ones.  Whew!  They are pricey.  I got quoted $2200 to $3000 depending on the dealer.  I've found a used and complete 59L that I will buy on Friday.
