Does any body know if the thermostats in my ACHD11B (serial # 2675) are just standard #2225 thermostats ? I don't want to take any thing off that I haven't already when I took the radiator out --- just to see what it looks like. Just figured it would be a good idea to replace the thermostats while I'm in there if I'm not creating another headache for myself doing it . if you have a compotent local autoparts store they can probably look them up. my local carquest guy has industrial and heavy equipment books and can look up those kind of items. not likely with the " if its not on the computer, we cant get it" guys.

Many thanks CAL(KS) the guy at MinnPar was very helpful. The only thing he couldn't find (still looking though) was the " thermostat seal assembly's" --- part number 4375678 in my Allis Chalmers parts catalog . Do you have any ideas where they can be found .Figured that if I'm in there I might as well replace them as well . Again --- Thank you in advance for any way you can advise . if Minnpar does not have it, it will likely be difficult to come by. there are people and places out there that have NOS parts its just a matter of looking and finding them. if it is some type of gasket ( i dont know what the seal assembly is) you may have to fabricate a new one from gasket material.
this place has a large list of parts that is searchable. also try searching the net with the part #

Good morning CAL(KS) .Thank you for the response .The "seal assembly" sits right on top of the thermostats in contact with them and is made up of what appears to be ( on page 208 0f my parts manual ) some sort of sleeve a spring a washer and a gasket I've never seen any thing like it and certainly not when associated with a thermostat . There is one for each thermostat . I don't really want to mess with them but will have to any way when I open the thing up to put the new thermostats in so I just figured I'd replace them as well .Any other ideas would be welcome . if the sleeve and spring are not part of the thermostat then likely, unless badly deteriorated, will be reusable and the gasket may come off in nearly one piece and could be reused with silicone, Indian head gasket maker or a similiar product. i would let it set overnight before refilling with coolant to ensure a good seal. i have done this on my HD16 a couple times to check, I thought the thermostats were stuck open as operating temps were too low
if your tractor is a HD11b not a series B, be aware there may be some newer style thermostats listed, but may not work, i ran into this problem on my 16
serial 2675, so an early dry clutch, non HYD assist steering machine?
yes, I consulted the Swinford bible, should be a 1956 W buda/lanova engine. I had heard at one time there was a buda/lanova guru in Missouri who dealt alot with the 516's and 844 lanova's. maby someone will chime in, they may be able to help you

ok i was curious, i looked in the parts book. yes that is early style. looks to be some kind of o-ring or rubber gasket sealing thermostat into upper part of housing. you will most likely have to match something to work but i dont think it will be too difficult.
looks to be similiar to an automotive thermostat in the way it works. i tried to get newer ones for my 16 but they had a strange plunger style movement that would not work in my housing. you may run into this problem, worst case scenerio, you could install the newer style housing to fit new thermostats? sorry not an 11 expert.

The tube style thermostats came out in the late 70's, holds better to warm a cold engine but requires a good seal or will run cold and takes less pressure to move the tube across water flow then a plate into flow so smaller wax bulb for more area of flow. Cummins had used these for years prior to Allis going that way. Old Detroit t-stats are the simpler flap or plate style in general. The unit in my 7G is an oddity to that tractor, found there were four versions.

Hello again CAL(KS) & DMILLER , Well I just put in an order with a place called "MinnPar" and a gentleman named Gary for thermostats,belts,gaskets,hose's, etc. gor my HD11B .Gave up on the "Seal Assembly" #4375678 in the parts book . I'm hoping every thing from MinnPar will be correct and then I will open up the Thermostat assembly and see what the mysterious "seal assembly" looks like . Cross that bridge when I come to it . Should be interesting to see if every thing I ordered is correct . I will let all you folks know how I did when I see and install(maybe) every thing . Many thanks for every bodies help . Hello Cal(KS) , You mentioned , back in April , to my information query about thermostats for my HD11b --- You said beware of a "new style" ! I got a pair of new thermostats and they appear identical except the springs on the input side are about 3/4" shorter than the originals . Is that the type you were referring to as problem ones ? The old ones don't look to bvad and now that I am putting that part together Wednesday and was reviewing your note I got concerned . Looking forward to your reply . Thanks in advance .
