Just got doing a complete maintenance on my new to me 8070. Drove it over to the farm today and it had a sputter to it and also puffs black when it sputters. Just wondering where to start looking. I'm thinking it's just a fuel issue somewhere. Made a couple rounds with the soil finisher and it does run better but can still hear a flutter. Doesn't do it all the time.

I know this sounds funny, but what material is the fuel hose going from the fuel filter to the head of the injection pump? If its hydraulic hose, replace it with a push-loc type hose. Had this same problem with both our 8070 and 8030 with hydro hose for this line.

That's what it has and dad was saying they had to change a line on them when they were new because of a flutter but he couldn't remember which one. It's most noticeable from 1400-1700 rpm when under load

Dont bother with Agco, go online and look up 3/8" push-loc hose. Get 2 #6 jic fittings for it and a 90* #6 male to female fitting to put on the fitting on the head of the pump. Cut hose to length and slap it on. Works great!

And the reason that this is happening is that the hydraulic hose doesn't have enough "give" or flex to dampen the pulses from the lift pump. So the pulses hit the hydraulic head of the pump and make it flutter.

If that doesn't work there is a quick governor adjustment that will take care of it.

Got a line and all the fittings today and put it all together. Worked about 15 acres with it and it still does it. Not so much when under a decent load but more so when there is not as much of a load on the engine. Idk where to look next.

Try using an fuel conditioner/cleaner. I use auto trans fluid seams to work for me on my 190. I put 1qt to a 1/4 tank and work it on the silage blower fluter goes away every time I do this 1 a year only for the fact the tractor sits for long periods of time and doesn't get used.

Our 8070 had a bad flutter between 1400 to 1700 rpm. It was very noticeable when you were roading it with no load. I finally took the pump off, and we sent it to a very good diesel shop, and had it checked out. Got it back thinking "good to go", put it on and it had the same flutter. I was getting very frustrated, and finally decided to get a second opinion, on the pump. I got in touch with a old school pump guy who remembered some older service updates, on the governor springs or settings. Bear with me on that, I am not a diesel pump guy, but he had a good idea what was wrong, from the flutter I described. Sent the pump to him and it came back fixed. Didn't really blame the other shop for not knowing all this, just new technicians used to the new stuff. I hope our experience helps you.

There was an AC service bulletin to address this, that applies to power-shift tractors. It requires different governor springs, and shimming dimensions. The latest AMBAC revision also reflects all the updates, so an 8070 should be 9486-E6. Dr Allis has also had success tightening the drag spring on the governor arm.

I had one that I battled with for a year taking pump on and off, Dr told me how to fix it, took care of the problem and the farmer was happy. Hard to explain but if you get ahold of me we can get it took care of . The other option is to take it off and send it to Ed.

Just because it was rebuilt doesn't mean it was updated. You still haven't confirmed if this is indeed a power-shift tractor.

ok, good info to know. is the tag a newer tag showing the 9486E6? Even if they did put a new tag on, did they replace the springs? Probably not, that's why the persistent flutter.

Our 8070 is a power shift, like I said I am not a pump guy, but wonder why the flutter only on the powershift and not the power director?

Ours had done this all last year during field work, finally fixed it with that line, but it still had a coffee can sound flutter to it. Ended up putting another New headgasket in it. With the fluttering it burnt a hole between 1&2 cylinders. So if it has been doing this for some time, could be that.

Call Spencer Diesel at Spencer, Iowa 712-262-5267. They have hoses made up just for the AC 8000 Series. They have a guy that makes them for CIH tractors out of a hose by Parker. We have them on our 8070's.

I had the exact same flutter on my 8070. Under load you could hardly notice it. No load above 1500 rpm it had a bad flutter you could hear a mile away. Dr. Allis had the answer. The post was from several years ago, but I followed what he said to tighten the governor spring in the injection pump. The flutter was gone and has not come back since. I am sure he would post the procedure again. I don't remember exactly how to do it, but you don't have to take the pump off, just a cover.
