Since I took all the pics I'll post this for another member. This was bought today at the yearly sale at Penn State University. This D17 Series IV Diesel was given the the university brand new. It was used originally for fuel usage tests then handed off to the farm ops where it raked hay and held light duty until this last season. Tach stopped at 22xx hours. No clue on real hours. Runs perfect. Drives great. Has some oddities about it. Biggest is the serial. Serial 179-4. Any ideas guys? Enjoy the pics.

It's amazing in person. Drives great. Apparently had a trans issue but was all repaired. Got a new clutch and rear main seal bit long ago. Guy said the clutch was ok but just did it while it was apart. Drives are quiet. Super easy starter.

Let's just say it's 50 years old. 50 hours a year would put it at 2500 hours. That's probably pretty close. That's a nice tractor.

It's more than that. Guy that used it alot...he used it as a student and 25 years as an employee said it had a fair amount of hours. He said he didn't remember the tach working in his 25 years....may not have been that long but quite a few. I know another forum member ran it and saw it ran a fair bit just this last season. Very well taken care of.

Very nice looking tractor.  I've never seen a serial number like that.  Personally, I don't mind paying more for a tractor if it looks and works near perfect (especially with a healthy Buda diesel)!

Seeing that tractor used while I was at school there made my days and seeing it brings back good memories. It was the unicorn among the PSU fleet. It still looks great!

I'll have to get some pics up. We mounted the 84" JD (Mckee built) snowblower I got at the same auction and used it some Saturday to make wind rows and clean up around dad's place. I could make that 262 work but it liked it. It's an exceptional machine.
