 Topic: D14 Replacement Headlights?

I’m converting my early 1957 D14 from
6V to 12V. I haven’t been able to find
any 12V headlights that will fit in the 6V headlight assemblies on my
tractor. My sealed beams are 4 3/4”
diameter with 1 screw terminal on back.
The original
AC number is 228358.
The later 12V D14’s use a 4 1/2'' diameter
number 4411 sealed beam and those are easy to find.
I know lots of your have converted
from 6 to 12V before so what did you do with the headlights? Thanks, Steve

You can put 12 volt bulbs in or change to a new 12 assembly $3 or $52.

Hi Tony, you have 12V 4.75" lights? or do you mean somehow remove the bulb from the sealed beam headlights I have? I thought that may be possible but I'm not sure how.

Take the existing bulbs out. Put a piece of rubber around the outside edge of the new 12v sealed beams and place in your assembly. The rubber adds a shock absorber and makes the fit snug. Some guys have been getting by with inner tube from old tires.

I did what Ted mentioned above. Bought AGCO 4.5" sealed beams for a late model D14, then cut some small tubing down the side and put it around the lip of the bulb. It takes a bit of work to fit everything together, but looks and works decent.

I did this on my CA. I got a pair of those rubber tractor work lights and trimmed the rubber down to fit the housings. Looks reasonably well. Those original lights can have an 1156 automotive bulb put in place of the 6v bulb.

Since we have to convert to 4.5" Sealed beam lamps at 12V I was wondering if anyone has used hight brightness LED' lights? They aren't cheap but they are bright and you can get wider beam patterns too. http://store.marinebeam.com/41sebereledb.html
