I finally completed the restoration of my '77 5050. Not completely happy with the final look of my sheet metal but that is always something that can be removed down the road smoothed out.
Thanks to Import Tractor Parts for all the necessary items and advise while doing this restoration. As most may notice, that is not the factory front grill. This grill is for a "Long" tractor. But it did match up with my hood. I'm still in search of a good front grill is anyone knows where I can get one. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice job! First time I saw a 5050 with the front grille on it! Seen a few around our neck of the woods here and non of em' had a front grille. One of my old neighbors has a 5050. Still has it, but never saw it with the front grille on it either! Is that somethin' that's a PIA and folks don't re-install it? Or, is it one of those items that once you mash it, ya can't get put back on or its not available anymore?...

Your restoration work looks very good on the 5050! Sheet metal looks good from here too! You did a lot of work on it. What did you use to clean up the tires?

Looks good!! I wish our 5040 looked that good. We still have the factory grill for it but with the loader on it is a pain to get to so dad said they have always left if off. I'm glad that they kept it though for the future!

looks good. I had a 5050 for awhile. Saved it from the scrap yard. They picked it up with one of those claws and bent the sheet metal all up.I thought it had been rolled over, until they told me what happened. The guy was laughing said It looked like new until we picked it up. Idiot Said the owner had overhauled the engine and something went wrong so he scraped it. Turned out he over torqued the mains and bolt broke locked the engine up. Bought all new bolts (very Expensive Had to order a whole bag of em) and had me a good little tractor. Sold it for another project though.

I'm just finishing up a restoration of a 1979 AC5050 . I bought the new aftermarket front grille and yes if you look at used models, most are missing the grille. The reason seems obvious. The nose sticks out way in front of the frame and front axle and gets crushed. I fixed the problem(hopefully) by bolting a 6x6 gluelam to the frame which is ahead of the grille. Mine is a 4x4 with low hours and seems overbuilt and has good access to all needed maintenance.
