I want to put power steering on my D14, Would I have to change the bolster? Can the manual steering bolster be made to work?

Dustin, you don't have to drill anything to change it over, however it is not a 10 minute job to do because it is quite invasive to the front bolster you have to remove so much to get at it you might as well just take the bolster right off and add the parts, or put another one on. you have to put the hyd ram with the rack on it, which means you need to take the right frame rail off, and put that in along with the pump and lines, then you need to take the bottom cover off of the bolster to put the idler gear in between the rack and the sector gear, then remove the side cover and install the rack guide with the proper shims, then you still have to take out the worm gear on the left side and change the bearing race to a caged needle bearing in the bolster, then install the steering motor unit where the worm gear unit was. after all that you need to finish hooking up the lines. Also you must flush the unit of the old gear oil because it is the reservoir for the powersteering fluid and it needs to be real clean. Yes you can do it, I have done it, but its quite involved and much easier to change it with the bolster with parts in it.

Hey Fellas, does anyone have pictures or manuals that would show the necessary parts to convert to power steering?
This is my first post so I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself and my tractor. I grew up on a family farm (other than my time in Houston Texas while in school. I was glad to get back and cant imagine being anywhere else. The home I live in was built in 1862 by my grandfathers grandfather. I have a D14 that my Grandfather bought new on 8/29/1962. I know because I have the Operating instructions manual with my Grandfathers signature and the Dealers.

Anyone have a power steering pump for a D14/15? Finally got all the parts for my power steering conversion about 2 years ago. It worked great until Last week. I was driving the tractor when I heard a loud pop. I stopped and got off the tractor to find the power steering pump was busted. So, now I'm up the creek with out a paddle!

I have a D14 parts tractor that has power steering. 99.9% sure the steering parts are complete.
I'll be where the tractor is stored later this morning, I'll take a look and get a few pictures. Edited by Play Farmer - 21 May 2016 at 6:40am |

I sure did, sorry about the delay in getting the pictures up. Between my real job, 2 kids graduating from college, buying another house, and getting the food plots in things have been a bit hectic - but it's all good!
![]() Here is what I have... ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the S/N. Based on this I think you'll find it's a 1959. ![]() |

Use lots and lots and lots of WD-40 (or your favorite penetrating fluid) on those steel lines !!!!! I doubt if ANY of them are available anymore thru AGCO. Might even need a little heat from a torch to help loosen things up without twisting a tube into a pretzel.

Dustin,
I've been at camp all weekend, just getting in the door. I'll give you a call, probably be tomorrow though. Packing up the oldest, she's heading off to pharmacy school. I'm in northern NY, north of Syracuse. Edited by Play Farmer - 05 Jun 2016 at 11:48am |
