I was wondering if anyone out there has a unstyled WC with starter that they might be interested in getting rid of. Looking for one that runs, but needs work, somewhere around Indiana. All depends on condition and price. Just looking for one to tinker with. Thank you.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think unstyled came with starters. Not that some weren't converted after the fact.

I have several bell housings off styled that you can put on any unstyled to give you starter. This was done now and then have seen several and have one on the spare parts tractors now. If interesed call 507-482-6940

This is a common debate, some believe that the last unstyled wcs had the option of coming from the factory with electric start. I have heard many that also say that is not true and that there is no proof for it.. Anyways.. there are a lot out there with electric start because people converted them (or some say a small number came from the factory that way) either way you should be able to find one.. I had a parts machine that I had for sale that had all of the electric start parts there but a stuck engine, but most of it is gone now.

I have a 39 WC, it is a styled model, but it has a good unstyled radiator. It has the distributor conversion, I tuned it up and it runs good, the electrical system works, has a new water pump, new battery box. The minuses, it needs both front wheels and tires, and one back tire, and needs the fuel system cleaned out now. $650 as it sits.

I agree the last WCs in 1938 did have starters, lights, & generators, but these were also the first styled WCs!! I'm not convinced that there were ever any factory produced unstyled WCs with electrical enhancements. However I think the converted ones are practical & kind of neat. Kip

Ok heres a spin I saw a pic in another post and it is a unstyled WF that has a starter but the housing isn't off of a styled wc or wd as it looks like their is no place to mount the gas tank saddle

Denis, The unstyled WF's were made into 1940, so there could be some out there that came with electric start that are a little different than the 38's and earlier ones.

Charlie- My WC- I noted that it didn't show any evidence of being an 'after-the-fact' conversion, but your note brings one thing to light... My WC... could have been a WF... it had a cobbled-up wide front (made from a truck axle) when I got it. I just assumed it was an NF... I'll hafta go back and re-check the serial number, and see if the rearend has been changed... it may have originally been a WF...

Gentlemen, The first starter WC's that I recall was in 1938. I recall at our family hanksgiving Dinner we left early so that we could unload our first carload of STYLED WC"S with starters. Also, the starter did not have the heavy wire starter rod. We got them from parts later and added them.
However, we did not care since all Pop had to do was push the starter button.
I cannot comment on WF tractors since I never sold one new but I do know that starters came only on styled 1938 WC's.
Any Flat Top WC with a starter on would have to be a conversion of the clutch housing with a newer WC.

Styled wc,s came out late in 38 but some unstyled wc,s were still assembled in 39 according to the allis chalmers book. I would think some of the unstyled ones would have a starter on them from the factory when they were doing the crossover but I could be wrong.

What book Babs? Norms Farm Equipment book does not mention it. The unstyled tractors that were built after 1938 were WF's and I'm sure there were unstyled WC's still on lots across the country after 38.
