Havent used this tractor a whole lot since I bought it in the spring but i noticed the other day while chopping stalks that the tenths roll backwards (9-8-7-6 etc) but the the hours still advance. this is the first time I ever saw this happen on a tractor. also the needle bounces between 18-21 regardless of throttle position?

don't know about the rolling backwards part but a poor connection at the alternator will cause eratic function of the tac.  you may have a more serious problem.  if someone else does not have an answer I can look up the problem in the service manuel tonight.  By the way, I have a new genunine allis 6060 service manuel if you are interested. NO BINDER INCLUDED.  60.00 plus the ride.  I gave more than that for mine in 1984.

You might have an electrical connection problem regarding the tach, but I had a 6080 needle bounce, while the hour meter seemed to work properly... including the tenths position... about 5-6 years ago... I replaced the tach...problem solved.

Electrical would make sense because the alternator idiot light recently started to flicker
