Your PTO shaft must come pretty close to the tractor drawbar if you auger down to full depth ?

I guess your right. Never noticed that, or thought about it, but the draw bar moves over. I'll check that this weekend when I get back to building the pen and see how close it gets.
Thanks. |

as hard and dry as it is here you would never get the digger in the ground.

is that operated from the seat? do you have to move the tractor back and forth as you go deeper to keep the hole straight? the only down pressure it's own weight?

I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27 |

Building the pen for my flock of Guinnies and Peacocks. Going to use 14' treated and put a net on the top of the pen.
Here's another angle I took of the tractor and auger. Please excuse my miss-matched tires. ![]() |

We were dry up until about the middle of September. The ground is soft now and it goes down easy.

Yes, its operated from the seat. I eye-ball it for straightness, but in the end its how you pack the dirt around the post that makes it straight. I use hedge since I have lots of it. I need a crooked hole for hedge posts anyway. |

you are forgiven for the mis match tires but having a bare shift tower and naked throttle / lift control lever could cancel your subscription to the " better farms and post hole auger review" publication ! lol. nice picture. thanks for the post.......tp studer. wooster,ohio.

Doesn't matter in Illinois. All bribes accepted, which will cancel any previous rules or agreements. :-) |

I was gonna ask if you painted that grass, but you said you have rain. I could take pics of our weeds (the grass is all dead), but who wants to see different shades of brown. We are just now getting some drizzle. We haven't had ANY rain for over 3 weeks and that was just 4 inches.4 inches between drops. It was less than .01. I can't remember when the last time was when we got any significant rain around here. Seems everything went north or south of us.
Nice setup though! Have fun and be safe! I lost a shirt once around one of those. |

We had 10" of rain on weekend three or four weeks past. Since then, last week we had 3 or 4 inches. I'd think Southern Illinois was caught up by now, but it came in downpours, not long and slow, so the Kaskaskia River is still low. But, we'll take it anyway. I never get off of a running PTO, at least not off the back end. |
