Last night I bought a 3 furrow SC plow. Not sure what model. Looks to be in not bad shape. Only problem is it's missing the eye on the tongue that goes into the snap coupler bell. Can somebody post a picture of one so I can fab one up. I will take a picture of mine tonight and post it. Maybe someone can tell me what I bought. Is there any info stamped on them that may be covered in paint?

Here is the plow.Got it for $150. Does anyone know what model it is? As you can see the PO used a clevis to connect to the snap coupler on their D17. I will be using it on my D15.

Looks like a 53 from here. Surely you should be able to find a SC eye somewhere? You should be aware that there was a service bulletin on using the 50 series plows on D series tractors. I don't remember the details, but most of it centered on the front coulter mount. Hopefully you will be able to sort it out. If not, send me a PM and I'll do some digging in my service bulletins.

john. wheather its a 53 or 63 model, i'm guessing a 53, the lift arms on the plow are opposite of where they should be. the adjustable link should be on the furrow side. me thinks........

Looks to me like the stub beams are angled forward (which would make it a 63), unless it is just the angle of the picture ?

Yes I think your right. I know very little about plows or plowing. Sort of like Edie Alberts character on Green Acres! Any advice I can get is greatly apreciated. I'm going to order a manual for my tractor and one for the plow. So its two votes for 53 and one for 63. Does it matter much if I get the wrong manual,or are they close enough?

What are the stub beams? Is that the vertical part that the moldboards are attached to? I need a plow dictionary so I know what you guys are talking about.
I just went out and had a look. If that is what you mean they are straight up and down.

Yes, those are the stub beams. If they are straight up and down it is a # 53.

It's a 53, and the front coulter is mounted upside down. It will be a good trash dragger that way.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

Randy: I think it's Ted who has the sharp eyes! The front coulter being mounted to the tongue is another good tip that it is a 50 series plow. The fact that it is mounted upside down is something that I didn't catch until Ted pointed it out! Good Going, Mr Buisker!

If the plow was used on a D series it may have been neccesary to turn over the front colter bracket to get it running deep enough to cut stalks.

It appear to be a combination of plow parts. I noticed the non adjustable link on the right but it uses the wrong bracket and should be on the left on a 63. Coulter on the tongue is from a 53. if the other coulters mount straight up and down that would be from a 53 as the coulters on a 63 are mounted angled forward. It was appearantly run as a 2 bottom at some time as well.

Well I managed to get a manual. Now I wonder whether I should have bought this plow. So far I have determined that it is a model 53 12" plow. The front hitch eye is missing and the shares seem to be quite worn. My D15 has 14.9" tires so is this going to be a problem since the plow is only 12". I would like to know before scrounging for parts that I assume are going to be hard to find.

From what I can see, your shares are in better shape than mine. Granted I don't plow the farm with mine, but I do garden with it and this year I did the foodplot out back. I had a little trouble pullin the 3-14's in the food plot cause it had only been run over with a field cultivator the last 5 years or so and had never been turned, just chisel plowed. Oh and I have the hydraulics set for the hold position, so my Traction boost wasn't working
![]() Somebody should have one of those bolt on SC eyes around, then youl'd be ready to go. I didn't know they made a 53-12. I don't think you'll have any trouble plowing with 14.9's . I have seen guys plow with 14 inch bottoms using 16.9 tires. |

Guys it gets worse the 53 is a pin hitch that's had the lift links changed out. the pull beam is going to be the wrong length to just bolt on a SC eye on and use it. I'll bet it was a #52/12" plow for a CA pin hitch tractor. I have a good #53 / 14" bottom plow here if that helps.
