WELL I FINALLY GOT MY PTO COUPLER OFF THE FRONT SHAFT BUT I STILL HAVE PROBLENMS. THE COUPLER ONLY SLIDES UP TO A CERTAIN POSITION AND GETS STUCK I DONT SEE ANY DAMGE. SO MY NEXT STEP IS TO PULL THE FRONT PTO SHAFT OUT AND TRY TO REPAIR IT OR REPLACE IT. IS THERE ANY THING I SHOULD BE CARFUL ABOUT WHEN I PULL THE SHAFT. I SEE YOU HAVE TO REMOVE  THE FREEZE PLUG,SO IS THERE ANYTHING TO REALLY WATCH FOR I DONT WANT TO DROP A GEAR OR WASHER.
THANKS CHRIS

Mr. d14, check your coupler and maybe even the shaft for a slight twist.  Those old girls turn in one direction for decades.  I had a similar problem with an external PTO shaft.  It would only go in so far.  I had been using it on a 45 and tried to use it on my d14.  Needed to be shorter on the 14.  cut it off twice and it still wouldn't go in.  turns out it had a twist in the solid bar.  I know this is not your set up, but maybe the problem is similar

Glad to hear you are still working on your 14 . Pull freeze plug and remove big snap ring inside and shaft will knock out through gear and maybe a spacer or two. You wil notice when shaft is out  that splines are long when pto is in gearand makes a weak point in shaft. Wish you lots of luck and some good hard work.

before i pull the shaft i will try to run a file over the splines to see if i can staighten it out. i only need about a half an inch more slide room so the couple will be fully disengaged. i also put a parts request into sandy lake to see if that pto shaft is still available.

well i was able to take a dremel tool and repair the splines so now the coupler moves smoothly up and down the shaft. my only concern is will i have a hard time getting back in the machine. i had to kinda hit it pretty hard to get the shaft out of the front bearing and splines of the gear.will it go back together easier than it came apart or does anybody have any tricks

thanks chris
