I have a 1957 Allis Chalmer WD45 and I was trying to spear a round bale. When I let up on the clutch to move back into the bale the hydraulics would engage and lift up the bale spike so I couldn't spear the bale. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong please let me know.

Put the tractor in reverse and release the hand clutch. With the foot clutch out (engaged) lower the spear to where you want it and place lever in hold position. Back up using the hand clutch.

If the hydraulics are set for using the Traction Booster, plowing with a mounted plow, you will not have a hold position, you will have to change the settings on the hydraulics.

It's been way too many years for me to remember well enough to explain it to you. You might try doing a search on here, as I think it was explained on here in the last few months.
When new it was on the side of the battery box, and is in the operators manual. Dusty |
