well i have been slowly getting my XT rearend back together. It had been so hot and miserable I didnt really mind that i had been too busy to work on it. Fixed the gear jumping problem with 3 gears and 2 shift collers. Replaced every seal and o-ring in the back half. Here are a couple pics of the rear all done just without the bolts in top cover. I have since mated the back half with the front and i am in the process of getting the PD valve ready to go back on.
Before i split it..the tractor wanted to creep with PD in neutral and trans in gear, you had to hold the brake. Everything in the clutch pack checked out good, nothing broken and could spin freely. i cleaned the PD valve in the parts washer and was blowing it off when i blew into the HYD IN port I got air and solvent out of both ports, HI and LOW. the valve was in neutral and was spring centered. NOT ON TRACTOR IN MY HAND.
Does the valve allow a small amount of oil in both ports to lube the clutch? or do i need to rebuild my valve? They clutch pack turns(slips) easily on input shaft. so it would seem the valve is putting a little oil to both clutchpacks at once, even in neutral.
sorry the pics arnt very good and the DATE IS WRONG

If I remember correctly you are suppose to get around 60 psi on high and low in neutral, which would mean some oil is designed to get past the valve. And yes it is a wet clutch, so oil has to get to it ALL the time, even in neutral. Don't quote me, or trust me on the psi number, but without the manual in front of me, I think that's right.

Ours doesn't creep, but you can tell that there is friction in the clutch, the tractor will roll maybe an inch when letting out the foot clutch, but any resistance stops it.

Orange Blood, my old XT doesn't creep at all either,, Just like snapping the hand clutch into nutral on a WD...
But all the others I have creep and drag.
Just what makes the difference? mine was overhauled back in 1975/76 in Swea City Iowa. Those guys did it right... Its slipping now under heavy loads but...30+ years isn't bad...and its still going. But needs OH and sure don't want it to creep or drag afterwards.
So I wonder what make the difference, any body know the secret?
