Since you are from the same town as the seller you may want to look at it first in person. Although something tells me you've already seen it in person.

I thought ebay had a policy about not being able to bid on something you are selling.

Still a nice job and appreciate the work someone did on this , probably over $60 worth of art work if one looks at it as art.
There i also own a couple of speedglass helmets and would not trade them for the older ones without auto darkening lens. One gets spoiled when one advances into the new world of welding improvements.

Charlie is right, you can't bid on your own auction but I'm guessing people have friends do it. Jordan, you went at this all wrong. Don't try to give us a B.S. story, if you are selling something then go ahead and post it as it is.

You guys are right, I apoligize, i went at this all wrong. I am going to be a senior in high school this fall and I admit not that great when it comes to trying to sell things. Again I am very sorry for this and if you guys could rethink checking this helmet out that would be great. I am going to need money for college here soon and I thought my airbrushing hobby could help out with that. Also I can do other helmets such as auto darken but I didnt know how this would turn out as it is my first one that I'm trying to sell on the internet.
You can go to several websites and find an auto darken lens for this helmet because I know that there are some out there. I have also done an 8010 on a helmet just like this and a 4w-305, also on this same type of helmet. I have done a 7000 series on an auto darken helmet that I bought from Norther Equipment. I can also airbrush T-shirts and other apperal. Please reconsider and I'm sorry for how this all began. -Jordan

Will the paint stand the heat radiated from the weld or will it ignite on the helmet?

Nope, my dad has been welding with his for quite awhile and it hasnt had any issues. The paint is water based so it will not ignite.

The pigments and the stickum are not necessarily water based, and there's no water in the dried paint. Just that they can be dissolved by water or suspended in water for convenient application. They can still be combustible.

I can assure you that the paint is will be fine and will withstand the heat and other welding elements. Here is a link to the paint i used so you can read dor yourself what the paint is. Also like i said before, I painted a tractor on my dads and it has been just fine. Here is the link for the paint.

Jordan, I applaud you for fessing up, many would have run and hid, or found a way to lie it out. I think your work is very nice looking, and if I had a bit more money at the moment, I would throw a bid on it. I think you have learned a lesson, and you will be better for it.
As for the paint/heat issue, as a fire fighter, I think that if you are getting that helmet hot enough to even start to make the paint smoke, let alone get it to a flash point, you might be doing something wrong, but foremost you would have other problems with your skin, before the paint ignited.

Hello everyone just letting you know that there is only 2 days left in the Model A Allis-Chalmers welding helmet on ebay. Remember that you don't have to use it as a welding helmet because one i sold to a friend has his in a display case.

With that kind of talent I can see you setting your self up for a nice little side business. Why stick with just welding helmets, take custom orders, maybe get set up with some of this site's sponsers to help you sell your work.
