Hello all. I am the proud owner of a free Allis WD. It runs great now... but im planning on rebuilding the engine. What is the best piston upgrade for the money? WD45, D17, Sealed Power? Im not looking for a boat load of Hp but from what i have been told an upgrade would be worth the little extra. Thanks

most aftermarket sets are 4 1/8 overbore with flat top pistons as opposed to the stock dished pistons for higher compression, you would have to buy the matching sleeves though...stock 4" aftermarket pistons are hard to come by, might find a set of used M&W pistons

If you use 45 or D17 you need to go to a WD45 crankshaft.  MACK

replace that wd motor with one from a e-gleaner or d-17,you will be way ahead of the game.

If you use WD45 or D17 pistons with the WD crank, you will have a lower compression ratio and less power. The 45 and 17 have a 4.5 inch stroke so the pin to top of the piston is shorter.

For a good all around utility tractor, I would just stay with the available rebuild kit.  dave.

I believe you could use flat top WD pistons with a WD45 crank, think it's about 8:1 compression

If I got a kit for my g201 with 4.125" bore pistons wouldn't that be same bore a g226? I was told I could just swap in wd45 pistons and sleeves in a wd. Its a good thing I asked. Where is the best place to buy a full rebuild kit including pistons, rings, sleeves, valve train, bearings, gaskets? Thank you for the help

You can use WD45 pistons and sleeves in a WD. But you don't want to do that because it will actually lower your HP.

The WD and WD45 both have a 4 inch bore. But the WD45 has a 4.5 inch stroke...the WD is only 4 inches.

For good reliable power you can throw in a WD45 crank and D17 pistons and sleeves.

Thats my bad. I should have said same cubic inch displacement not same bore. Im just going with an oversized wd piston. Any suggestions?

1/8th over gives 213 cubic inches. Its the least pain for the most gain, Trev.

Got to the top right of this page and click on (parts etc) Sandy Lake, Tony C, OK tractor and Norm M are a few of the sponsors of this site that can help you out with a total kit. Best have the crank out and checked to make sure it doesn't need ground or maybe has already been ground once or twice.
