Did my first big mowing job with the new Bush Hog 3008 and I have to say I like it. It is really quiet and cuts better than the JD MX8 that it replaced. It is shorter than the JD so the rig fits on my trailer better, also. Only thing I don't like is it is hard to grease the pto U-joints.....Oh, and the 175D did fine too...

They are made in Alabama, not sure if the gearboxes are American made....I haven't looked for a stamp. I know the JD boxes say "made in Spain" on them. I will check when I get a chance...I know they are quite a bit bigger than the JD ones....

Eldon, In my opinion these are superior machines.I've had 3 competitors and they are not even in the same ballpark. The gearboxes are bulletproof.I would keep up with the SN # because the PTO shafts are made by 2or3 different companys and they (Bush Hog)don't always use the same supplier.Find out what yours is and make note of it now and it will save you a headach when you need u joints later. My 2615 uses Comer . Scott

I have to jump in here and stand up for the Bush Hog too....cause I welded 'em together over 30 years ago before I went to the seminary... the little 5 footer was maybe a weak point but the bigger ones were heave metal... and the dish that the blades were mounted to was the "stump jumper" ...after the end of the blade cut of the tree you would not get caught up on the stump. peace

Is that an 8 footer? I'm curious how the 175 handles the weight. I wound up finding a 7 ft flail that comes in at about 900 lbs, and the D17IV is a bit light on the front without extra weight. Your Bush Hog looks to be quite a bit heavier. Nice looking mower and tractor for sure!

Yes it is an 8 ft and weighs right around 1900#. It takes the full rack of front weights and the front tires are also full of fluid. With new brakes and all that weight the 175 turns on a dime....
I put the JD on the Series IV diesel without front weights and it will lift the front end off the ground just letting out the clutch.

I put a 3008 with a mulching kit behind the 180, front end got a little light so I added a loader for ballast, be real careful with that 1800# when on grades with any fast manuevers; had it four years now and no complaints.
