I was brush hogging this afternoon and I noticed that the rpm's started to raise / lower occasionally.  I didn't think much of it when 20 minutes later the tractor just died.  I tried to re-start it but it wouldn't even turn over.  (made sure pto was off too).  Towed it back to the house and now it cranks over, but still does not start.  Put the battery charger on it (very recent battery) and although it cranks very fast, still does not start.

Does anybody have ideas to the problem or any advice?  It'd be appreciated, thank you.

I have a 5040 and have had trouble that way. What I have found on mine by the fuel shutoff valve it gets plugged . Take the line loose by the shut off valve and blow back in the tank and if that fixes it you need to clean out fuel tank when you get a chance. I still haven't had a chance to clean mine. LoL.
