What's the advantage of a 4 button clutch over a regular clutch ? I found one in a box of NOS B/C parts I got from a shut down dealer in FLA. years ago and was wondering if I should keep it to use or get rid of it.

They slip less and wear longer , but they are hard on flywheel and pressure plate.
I have one in my HD5 as well as my IH 460 Utility , also have them in my dump trucks.
One problem in truck is you cant slip the clutch when starting out, like for spreading gravel , it's in or out .
Longer life and fewer problems as they will not disintegrate under heat if someone does ride the clutch.  I also put one in my old Pettybone Loader but as that also had a torque converter it was not any real improvement.
If you go to use it measure the buttons to be sure they are all the same thickness, had one where ceramic buttons were different height and sure presented problems . Had to split tractor twice to get the problem solved.

Thanks Coke. Sounds like this might be better off in a power unit maybe.

Usually the 4 buttons are ceramic and hold much better, and with just 4 buttons the heat displaces better

Was told oil doesn't bother them as much also. We use them for WD pullers along with 9 spring pressure plate. Seems like the last one put in my uncles 45D with 262T motor was a 6 button.

I kind of thought that they were for severe service but couldn't figure out why they came in B/C size. If anyone wants it shoot me a PM.

Mike, I have a B model with a button clutch, and I really do not care for it. It works all right, but once in a while you get in a spot where you need to slip your clutch a little, but you cannot with the button job !!

My D15 had a 4 button clutch. It had the flywheel and pressure plate chewed up bad. Had the resurface the flywheel and replace the pressure plate Went back to fibre plate. Tractor has a loader on it. Bob
