Has anyone here had a New Holland with the ISM n844t (Shibaura) diesel engine? Are they good engines? Do they start well in the cold? I like the Yanmar in my JD, but there is a low hour NH for sale locally and thinking about trading up.

Back in 1994 thru 1996,I was a salesman at a NH dealer and we sold lots of NH skid loaders with that same engine. Seemed to be a tough little engine with very few problems. I always thought if a engine would hold up good on a skid loader that it was pretty darn tough. They operate in alot of dirt, dust and at times take alot of abuse by some people. If it sounds good and has no leaks or excessive smoke,I would not be afraid of it. As well as I can remember, they started well in cold weather. It should have a pre-heater or glow plugs to assist cold weather starting.

I had a 785 with the Perkins engine and after trying one with the Ford and the Perkins , the Ford was a dog in performance and power next to the 4 cyl Perkins
I have a 783 I just picked up that had the Deutz engine but just sold the engine as parts to guy in IL. Now looking for another engine for that 783

Buy it either way! Well proven machine that is still worth $15-18K in the Midwest with those hours. The low price makes one suspicious of hidden problem? Or STOLEN?

Howdy Eldon,
I got a John Deere 675-B. 40 some hp diesel and 1700 lb lift with yanmar engine. These were made by New Holland then. Dealer put a block heater on for me but told me I would never use it, he was right. Nice small machine for the hp, now to get that new machines are much larger. Kurzy

I had a JD machine that was suppose to be the same as the NH 785 (newer ) but the balance was different, somehow it would not move in sand as well as the NH and the tip point when loading trucks was different, cursed the fact of getting rid of the NH to get the JD.

We got an old 783 with the ford engine and that is still my favorite skid loader to run over all the newer loaders I have run. Great starting and good power in my opinion.
