I need to replace the front main seal and the throwout bearing on my 190XT. The engine has a little of what I think is wristpin noise and the oil pressure is I think a little low. The noise is higher in the block and is a lighter kinda tinny rattle, I don't think it is piston slap because I have 175 pounds of compession. Are these engines prone to this kind of noise or are they prone to wristpin malfunction? Will this engine last with that kind of noise? On the oil pressure side of things it will have 55psi on start up and then it dropps off to around 25 psi at mid throttle or 18 psi at idle. I'm just not sure with what parts cost, and availability that I wan't to put a lot of money in the gas engine when the diesels are fairly inexpensive and parts are readily available. I use this tractor in the hayfeild and as a loader-chore tractor so I am by no means taxing it in the horpower area. I like the tractor as is but I have no experiance with a 190 diesel, I'd probly like it as well. I guess I'm just looking to gather thoughts as to the seriosness of the issues that need attention and explore my options with repair. Please don't hold back on opinions because thats what I'm looking for. Thanks

Wrist pins on a 301 are not pressure fed, so they would not be the direct cause of your low oil pressure, but if they are showing wear, then your other bearings could also be showing wear and causing a drop in oil pressure. The pressures you give don't sound bad, but I am not sure what the oil pressure spec is for a 301 gas, so they may be on the low side.

AS in the other post on NO oil pressure 190 check suggestions posted there. Oil pressure on 190s that are just low are unusual as the only source of loss through normal wear is rods and mains, cam bearings are not pressure lubed. There is a pressure relief valve in the oil pump itself AND an adjustable relief on the block. Look for what looks like a plug on the side of the block that screws DOWN at about a 25 degree angle to the vertical line of the block at about the #2-3 cylinder. Could be a relief valve that is not shutting down at low idle. Again have found helpfull test to pressurize oil port through the sender port tap - listen for a major air leaks and trace it down if excessive as the engine is slowly rotated by hand.
