I am trying to talk dad into upgrading his 4w-220 into something newer. Wondering what you guys think would be a proper place to start out at if I talk him into it. It was completely repainted around 5 years ago. At that time we also put in new headliner, new interior kit, new seat cushions, axle duals with new rubber all around. It has a cummins in it and runs great. Obviously this tractor is not in like new condition since re-doing since it has been his main tractor and gets used, but out of the 170 built it would have to be in the top 25 that are still around.
Any opinions would be appreciated Kirk Weltonkb@gmail.com |

Well it needed 8 new tires. i am sure it needed new interior.repainted and hauled 400 miles. you would have close to 50,000 in it when,it was done.

To most collectors, having the first serial number of a certain model would make a huge difference.

Well by this guys standard we should be asking 45,000 plus for this one LOL. I would love to think it was worth this much, but I guess I live in the real world. Now if we were talking my 220 FWA then ??????? but it is not likely to be for sale any time soon. Anyone want to offer 45,000, doubt dad would be able to turn that down. I will try to get some current pix up and hours to give you guys a better idea since no one seems to want to give a number for us to start at. |

In my opinion the one on Tractorhouse should be more like $9,500 to $10,000, IF it runs better than it looks.
Sight unseen I would think you're looking between $20,000 and $25,000 I'd say the Cummins is probably an improvement but it killed any collectors value it might have had so now you just have a nice old but somewhat small 4WD, but what do I know... LOL

I agree with you on the cummins, while it makes a very good tractor out of it, it does hurt the collectibility. However the value of the cummins would easily pay for the transplant back to a 3750 allis, which can still fairly easily be found. Thanks for the opinion on the value though. kirk |

can't replace it with a new one for that amount...if your dad is happy with it...let him keep it! he must be, or he wouldn't have spent the money to fix/paint it! guess what i'm saying is...if you want a newer tractor...you take the loan out for one! oh...yeah....i'm taking donations too!

Unless you are in a really "anti-allis" area that would be pretty cheap. Or they are near salvage machines. Heck down here they are asking upper teens and above for GOOD two wheel drive 8000 series tractors.

I think a nice one should be worth 20,000.00 . I am with Dave that one is way over priced. I figured the serial number one should be worth more. But not alot of people collect 4wds. So I figured the serial number one should be around 15.000 to 20,000.00 not 30,000. Just my opinion

Well, we will have to meet at the Husky for coffee. Check the AGCO dealer in Saskatoon, I think they are asking about 12k. The thing is, nobody wants them, too small for the corporate "farmers", too small for a 800 bushel grain cart, and most people here consider them an "off brand". There is also a really nice 8070 fwd, I think at Swift Current. Trev.

Its not what I would call an anti Allis area, its just that Versatile, John Deere, Steiger, Massey had most of the 4wd market. Now its red and blue, with some green. There were so few 4w-220s that most people dont know about them. We had a 7580, loved it, had a shot at 2 4w-220s, never did get one. There is also 2 7580s for sale in Alberta for 10k, one has a bad drop box. Same deal, too old, too small, guys are using 1200 bushel grain carts here, tail would be wagging the dog, Trev.
