Have a 83 6080 9000 hours, having problems getting it in to gear, its not grinding but i would describe as lack of grinding what makes it hard to get in to gear, also hard to get out of gear when on a small incline( trying to get out of a forward gear to reverse) Clutch is adjusted according to book specs. also , if sitting on level ground, step in clutch, move shift lever to engage a gear, tractor will start to move before gear is fully engaged. sometimes can select a gear and goes right in , but most of time its a battle to get in to gear. You guys got any ideas or advice Frustrated Im used to my 190 shifting so nice. thanx for any help Brian

sounds like something has come apart in the clutch, pilot bearing dragging. Either way it is splitting the tractor

Just my 2 cents we have a 6060 that we adjusted the clutch and it still didn't act right. We had to put a new cable on it because it was binding up. Worked great after that ours has around 11000hrs.

i was told the day i bought my 6060, that the previous summer it started having clutch issues, so new clutch assembly was bought and tractor was split, found the original clutch was in good shape it was a cable issue, they replaced everything including the cable and now everthing works great'
this information was given to me by my local tractor mechanic, who has his shop just accross the back fence from me, he did the work and said the old man wanted to go ahead with the new clutch since it was split anyway. but all it really needed was a cable
so i would check the cable first. Edited by ky wonder - 14 Feb 2012 at 10:49am |

We have also replaced the cable in 2 of our 6080's. Both of them broke so maybe they didn't get wore enough to cause the same problems. rrhead(SD)

We had a 6070 with the same issues - cable adjustment and cable ends / hooks being worn and worn cable pins.

Brian, Sounds to me like the clutch isnt releasing all the way, even though you have it by the book, I would increase it a little and see what happens. It could also be that cold MinnowSoda winter, lol. My 6080 has 5??? hours and have not had any problems yet. Other than I still need a back glass.
