Sorry if these questions are stupid but I'm kinda new to Allis Chalmers and Im 20 years old so I lack exsperience. I own a d 14 that was my great grandfathers that I tracked down and got it back in the family after 25 years away from us. Basicly I had never seen the thing before I got it back and if it wasnt for me knowing people I would have never found it again. My first question is where is the serial number located? Basicly I know the tractor was delieved to the orginal owner on May 18 1958 and I live in South Bend, In about 50 miles from where their plant orginally stood. I really wanna figure out what year it was made for curtain and I would like to figure out what day it was made around. My second question is what can you tell me about how the traction booster works because I cant find any info on it.
Thanks for any help, Dustin

number should be left side of bell housing and traction booster is used for plowing , when you hit a tough spot it notices it (depending on how far it is moved up the quadrant) and pulls the plows up just enough to put weight on tractor to get ya moving again then goes back down.

There are no dumb questions on this forum but there are a few smarta$$es.You can still buy owners manuals.I'd recommend you round one up.It will tell you everything you need to know about your tractor.
Nothing wrong with being only 20 either. Edited by SteveM C/IL - 31 Jan 2012 at 11:40pm |

Dustin,
Welcome to the Orange family! I was 20 once. Bout' 40 years ago. Time fly's when yer' having fun. Once you pick yourself up a service and parts manuals for that machine, you'll start learning as soon as you start reading. Two great things to have when owning a Tractor. They'll be easier to find than the family heirloom D14. Congrat's on that! Like Stevo said, there's no such thing as a dumb question. I don't own a D series Tractor yet, but there's plenty here in the family that can help ya out with your questions! Have fun with your Great Grandads Tractor! Glad to hear its back in your family again.

Thank you everyone. I found the serial number its 10335 so its a 58. I have even talked with my grandpa and he is letting me get the orgianl equipment back from him which for some reason he never gave up dont know why. Im getting the full set of cultivators front and back. I just have to figure out where my grandpa set the lift arms. Also im getting the orginal 2 bottom plow that he has. They were both sold with the tractor orginally. Also I do have the orginal owners manuel thats how I knew they bought it on May 18, 1958 because they wrote it on top recieved. Id post pictures but cant figure out how to on here.

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on finding and returning your grandpa's tractor to the family. Soon as you get it running, take him out and let him drive it again. Beware: You may not get the smile off his face for several days though. I'm glad you found it and getting the original implements from him will make it even more special. God Bless.

Yah he was happy when we got it back because we had been trying to get it back ever since his father gave it away (even though it was not my great grandpas he "took" it from my grandpa) which was over 20 years ago. It still runs great but I will have to overhaul it in the next 10 years probibly. Funny part is it had sat for 5 years when we found it again put fresh gas and a new battery in it and popped right of it was scary.
