Got a couple of tire related questions.

1)  I've got a couple of rear tires that leak down over the course of two weeks or so.  Is it worth putting that slim stuff in them to seal up the leaks?  Secondly, the sidewalls look sort of rough, almost like the tread "caps" are separating from the sidewalls.  The only way I can describe them is with my wife's term...scaly tires.  The tread is about 75% if not more.  I'd like to keep running them; are there any safety concerns.  They don't carry a lot of of weight, but do see some hard pulls skidding logs on occasion.

2) When did the old style closed bar tread pattern tires stop being standard?  Did buyers have an option of closed or open tread?  What year tractors would they be "correct" on?

If there tubeless the Green Slime will work but if tube type check the valve area first for leak with soap and water for leaks. Might try full tire with soap to see if you can find the leaking area . (used slime in bicycle tubes but never tried it in tractor or truck tubes, easier to replace )
 have used the slime in my backhoe tires and works well . 

Which tread as the R4 is industrial tread and there are several AG treads also. 

If it is a tubeless tire might be easier to install tube . Before I put new tires on TLB I had one with spot in sidewall I booted and used a tube.

If you have tubes and they're leaking by the valve stems, put new valve stems in the tubes.   Some of the older tubes, the entire stem part comes out, there are at least two different styles.   YOu can buy new ones and thread them in and your leak is most likely solved.  
Here is a link to one style at Gemplers.   I have both styles on hand in the inventory.

alot of times those little o-rings dry up and crack letting air seep out. they're the ones that have a nut holding them in place, have had to replace several on my truck and backhoe thru the years..cheap easy fix.
