Belarus are dirt cheap for a reason. I can buy a running 4x4 Belarus for less than a stuck fence row AC B with the tires rotted off. But I can get parts for the B and fix it and can't for the Belarus. If I was looking at one I'd turn the other way and run fast.Wink

The Belarus that I have is not a large tractor, but I haven't had problems getting the parts I've needed. The local dealer here in Syracuse keeps most of the common parts for these that are used here. Mine is a 562 front wheel assist, like I said it is a smaller (60 hp) tractor with front wheel assist. I refer to the Belarus as a mechanic's tractor not because I've had to work on it alot, but everything is rebuildable or cleanable. I had a tie rod come apart went in to get one the dealer handed me a stem and seat and said this is all you will need. Mine has been dependable, but I care for it and keep the maintenance up on it. It will start on some of the coldest days with only the glow plugs used as starting aids. I love it as a chore tractor (loader work, feeding hay, brushhoging ). But when it comes to baling hay I don't care for it as much it is uncomfortble and a little awkward to operate. How ever overall I would call the smaller ones a good tractor, but I don't know about the larger ones. I would think if the controls and other feild operation is simlar to the 562 I would hate using it in the feild all day.

My friend has one(he also has a 39 B). It's big, ugly, starts anytime and has power down on the 3point,loader up front. He got it for real cheap and fixed the 'problem' in about 1/2hour...15 years ago.Nothing else has gone wrong.
Heck, if the price is right and it'll do the jobs you need it for, buy it.As for parts/repairs...the Internet will find anything you want if you ask right !

Best thing about a Belarus.... is the neet little 44lb. suitcase weights that are almost fun to swap around when changing weight class' at a pull.

We are planning on selling our 1025 4x4 this summer. The closest dealer is now 350 miles away. Agco dealer is 25 miles away. CaseIH dealer is 10 miles away. A no-brainer!!

the guy that does my hay has one that he bought new.  I do not remember the model # but it is a cab tractor, 4WD.  He loves it and has no problem getting parts for it.  One thing I noticed is when he shuts it off, there is something that spins in the oil filter housing that sounds like it is never going to quit spinning.  It probably spins for a minute and a half when he shuts it down from an idle.  The only thing he does not like is the noise in the cab

Centrifugal oil filter - works like the old cream separators.  I always thought that Belarus had some interesting ideas, but the workmanship/quality control was poor.

I have been to their factory outside of Minsk a couple times.  It is sort of interesting.......
They make everything from small pull behind your car trailers to 320 ton haul trucks.
In recent years they have started to source more parts / systems from the US, at least in their larger stuff.
cheers,
Creek

Are you talking about a front wheel assist or an actual 4 wheel drive? My fil had a 1770 4 wheel drive and it was interesting to drive as you sit on the left hand side of the cab and there is another seat on the right side for a passenger, but it did have a 3 or 4 speed powershift and airbrakes like a semi so was nice to drive. A neighbor that I worked for in highschool had a 562 fwa with a Belarus loader on it and was the main chore tractor on his farm (70 milk cows,100 beef cows and all the youngstock). Both these tractors worked very well and were very dependable. If you wanna come up to central MN my bil has a 300 horse Belarus 4wd he is looking to get rid of and would be cheap!

I find this thread interesting, everyone that says they have true knowleadge of the Belarus with the exception of one, and he didn't say, claims that while they have some draw backs they are dependable tractors. And those that claim there not don't offer any experance being around them. Lets see I've had mine since 1996 and other than perventive maintenance I've rebuilt one tie rod end, replace the seals in hyd, valve, bypass one of the starter interlock relay (used to prevent cranking the engine while running), and had the starter rebuilt and new batteries. I feel this is pretty dependable. I also had mice chew the amp meter wiring and it shorted out and burnt the wiring, but I can't blame that on the tractor. I will tell you the wiring diagrams leave a little to be desired.

the one i'm looking at is coming up on an auction....they made a short movie on it, is filmed in the winter time...it's the big 4x4, not fwa. there are 2 of them in service locally, one guy hates his, and the other loves his! i don't remember the model # right now tho. it looks like it's always been kept inside. my mechanic has worked on them before, he says the thing always starts in the winter without being plugged in! (i like that) JR...tell me about your BIL's tractor, why is he looking to get rid of it cheap?

I don't have one myself, but i've been on a few.

Not the most comfortable or user-friendly things(only been on the smaller ones, up to 60-70 HP), but seem to start and run well, and not many problems with wear/breakage. Seem pretty simple to work on. (I think the Russians are more about functional than comfortable, think tractor version of AK-47.) If you don't have a natural inclination toward electrical system troubleshooting, you should definitely learn to speak Russian.

These things are built at a gigantic complex of industrial plants in Belarus(pronounced Bell-ahh-roos) Russia. Not too far from Chernobyl.
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

He bought it in a package deal and didn't need the Belarus. It had sat for at least 15 years and he said it fired right up when they put a battery in it. I am not sure of the number on the tractor I will have to get ahold of him and get the number. If I remember right it is a V-12 engine in it. I sent you a pm.

I saw a FWA Belarus on craigslist last week. I think it was about 60hp for 5K
It didn't look to bad from the picture. Kind of made we wonder though. Seems cheap.
I think it was in MO somewhere.

I was just talking to a fella last week that had one, and he conceded it was crudely built and ugly, but he said it was a fuel miser. He never had a diesel tractor that was as economical to run for the HP rating of the tractor.

guess i don't understand why they put springs on it! my mechanic says they are easy to work on, but when he drives one, it feels like it's gonna tip over from leaning when he turns around with it! that would be a weird feeling....kinda like a tricycle front end ona steep hill! i need at least 175-180 hp, 2 wheel drive is fine, do i need a true 4x4? no, do i want a true 4x4? YES! have always wanted one...but can get along with just a 2-wh dr. with duals. and don't even think...that i would want/try a JD! am partial to AC...but finding one close by is almost non exsictant! time is getting pretty important right now, as i need it this spring! shucks with the way the weather has been this winter, i think i could be out disking right now! would sure help getting those spring weed seed  germinating faster!

Shameless, I know where a 7580 is sitting in central Missouri (Columbia) I don't know anymore than that. But I will be in there picking up some parts for my 190XT I can ask them if you want me to. I know they've had it for awhile, but don't know if it runs or anything else.

Neighbor has a 825 FWA, maybe 80hp.  Loves it, runs several hours everyday mixing feed.  Says its easy on fuel, has few issues and when he does parts are cheap.  I guess it helps a dealer is 10-15 miles away.  Buddy's dad used to do custom chiseling with a 4x4 Belarus, have no idea what model.  According to them the thing would just run and run with almost no downtime.

Your conclusion is more accurate than you know.  That is the typical Russian engineering mindset.  Build it simple and maintainable with a minimal amount of tools.  During WWII their T-34 tanks needed only four tools for field maintenance.

I have a 400. Not a bad tractor. GREAT on fuel. Mine is short and small so it works good in the woods for me. Just that there is not resale value to them is the bad thing. As far as braking down no big probloms. They all brake down even them junk JD's.
