I have an early 190XT SN#8391.  I have a soft spot for AC's because I grew up on them, but admit I have not been around them for years and know very little.  I just got this one a few months ago, and it's rough, but seemed to run fine, until recently.  It takes forever to start when cold, I'm going to toast the starter if I can't find a fix.  But, it has always ran fine after warm, until recently.  Now it will run for 15 to 30 seconds, good throttle response all the way from idle to full throttle but then suddenly dies like you shut off the fuel.  It will fire right back up and do the same.  Once in a while it will start to run at about half of what the throttle is set at for a few seconds and then die, but mostly just abruptly dies. I cleaned the sediment bowls, changed fuel filter, added a bottle of Sea Foam.  I'm guessing injector pump or injectors?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, more detail is definaetly better.

i would check to see that the return
line from the injection pump is not
plug they will not run if it`s plug

how full is the fuel tank. I've had several that run low and plug the intake skrene inside the tank.  fill them up and blow air through and will run fine.

if you are using bio-diesel it will jell at about 36 deg.. guess you know about the manifold heater turn the key to the right as far as you can and hold for aprox 30 sec then try to start. hope this is of some help Tom. PS check to see if you have any air leaks in the fuel system. and you may try priming the hand pump befor starting to purge any air out of the line.

I used the hand pump to purge the air after the filter change.  It sprayed fuel out as I pumped.  Is it possible it has a bad seal and is letting air in there?

Sounds like a case of flex ring deterioration in the injection pump.  You could try removing the return fitting on the top of the pump and see if it will run.  If so than that will verify this problem.  There is a glass ball in that fitting and it will plug with flex ring particles and kill the tractor instantly.  If this is the problem, a pump rebuild is the remedy.

yes that could be some and mabe all of your trouble. do you know if you are using bio-diesel or not? but it sounds like you are sucking air some where.

For kicks and giggles get flashlite and look in the tank, I bought a 190xt a few years ago that was doing like you say and at one time someone must have lost the fuel cap and used rag's to plug the fill hole and they fell inside.
But it could very well be the pump like stated above Good Luck!

Cody hit the nail on the head! take the timing window loose and see if it stays running while fuel leaks out there, thus bleeding off excess housing pressure. pm me if I can help with pump overhaul. Ed.

Return fitting is pluged in pump. Time for a rebuild.
  If it was a fuel supply problem it would not restart after it dies.  MACK

         I would say Mack and the rest are right about the flex ring. Been there and had pump rebuilt and problem gone.
