Howdy all! I'm going to look at what the guy says is an Allis post hole digger. Not sure what to look for or exactly sure what a factory Allis one looks like, as the last one I seen was at the show in Hutch back in 03 I think. If anybody would have a picture or more they could post by Saturday morning I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance. Travis

Travis, is this the one listed on craigslist located in Aurora? What does he want for it, the ad didn't say and he never responded to my email. I've seen them like the one he has in the picture, but can't say they are Allis. Dave

Here is an AC Post Hole Digger. Not hooked to a tractor in this image. This is a snap couple digger.

I'm glad it's your and not mine. If it was, I would have to find out if it would work for making icefishing holes. Brrrrr.

I've got a #10 that mounts on my WD. It's not the easiest thing to mount and unmount. Digs holes good though.

Thanks for the replies. After looking at the pictures Nikon1 posted I'm pretty sure it is not an A-C digger and instead a aftermarket or home made job.
Dave and ICTRCTR yes it is the one on Craig's list in the Aurora area. I emailed him early Tuesday morning then again on Thursday morning and left my phone number the second time. He called me on Thursday morning and said he has had a lot of interest in the items, but only the blade was "possibly sold". He wants $350 for the digger, so I said I would be very interested if it was in fact an Allis item, but would like to look at it first. I'm also interested in the plow and remaining CA. I am meeting him tomorrow morning, so if there is anything you would like to know let me know and I'll find out what I can. |

He called me and said the post hole digger and plow were sold. He still had the ca and the wd 45. The wd 45 is loose but the pto does not work i guess. The ca is the bellhousing back that is all that is left of it. I believe he wantes 250 for that i am sure someone will guy that right away when they see it not a bad price for the parts that are still on it. I bought his fathers 190 Series III two years ago at the Aurora Community Auction. |

There were two different post hole diggers, one had channel iron side frames and was made by Roper, the other was the #10 as depicted in the above pictures. I have a #10 with the drawbar bracket to fit a D14 or 15. I'd sell it for $500 cash, picked up here.

Well this is what it looks like...
![]() ![]() ![]() When it's warmer than 10 degrees out, less wind, and maybe even mounted on a tractor I will post more pictures. Dan, the guy selling on Craig's list, is a really nice guy and I think he was just overwhelmed and maybe flustered a little bit with all the emails he received in such a short time on the equipment he was selling. Those of you who tried contacting him with no response yet everything has been sold. Sorry dpower I bought the remains of the CA, but if you needed something off of it let me know. Travis, does it look like it will work? Seemed he mentioned something about the PTO shaft being stuck. Nice find. Dave

With it being so cold and windy today along with other complications this morning the only thing we did is load it up and put a strap on to keep it from falling out of the back of the truck. I think I got a pretty decent deal on the package, ended up buying the plow, CA and digger. I will keep you posted on the outcome later.

Travis, nice find.....mine is exactly like that, but has a larger diameter auger. And you're right about being overwhelmed, lots of people think they just have a pile of old iron.

Post Hole Diggers are ideal for a wide variety of applications- like fencing, tree plantations. Auger size can be decided as per the required hole size. The digging gets done at a faster pace and neater way as compared to manual digging.

My Allis post hole digger just hooks to the lift arms. One bolt on each side hook the PTO up and your done. You do have to make sure it is strait up and down before tightening the bolts though. And you have to back up a couple inches when you get about 3/4 of the way down. I was lucky that it has around a 10 inch auger but I just wish it was longer so I could dig deeper.
