Friend of mine tells me there is a 1963? hd6g for sale down the road from him. I'm looking for a machine to clear some ovegrown brush,(2-3acres) . I'm not too familiar wth these older machines and I am looking for a little guidence. My buddy called the owner and this is basically what he said: He thinks a 1963 with a allis 6000 motor and oil clutches. It runs and steers good. Sprockets are in good shape , tracks are worn somewhat but not shot and pins and bushings show a little wear but not terrible, and doesnt smoke. Doest use it anymore because he has other newer equipment and it justs sits and only starts it once and a while to move it around a litttle. Hes asking 3000.00.
Does this sound like a bad idea? Was thinking it would be good to use for clearing then occasional use on the farm. Anyone know how the 6000 engine compares to the earlier motors. I know theundercarriage condition is really the man concern and told my buddy to take some shots with his phone before i drive to go see it. Thanks for any advise

Clark66 - I think a dozer for clearing overgrown brush seems reasonable, but if you have wife that does not appreciate machinery expenditures - she might not think it is a good idea.
Check the posts on here on Re-Engine Early HD6 Shovel and you will have a lot of input on the 6000 engine versus the older HD-344. The last HD6's were equipped with a 7000 Direct Injection Engine. Post some pictures when you get a chance and others can provide some feedback. Undercarriage condition is very important as that is where the greatest expenditure will be made if the U/C is worn beyond limits. If the U/C is fair to good condition, the asking price seems reasonable. Good luck...Orangeman |

clark 66 I have 1 left . It is a 1964, the main clutch is oil and the steering are dry. Right clutch stuck last winter. Good machine, all the levers keep you kind of busy. I put a later engine in this one out of a straight hd6. 6000 engine, I would not buy another with the 344 motor. It has the larger crank shaft. For the money, if the undercarrage is good and it runs sounds like a deal.
