after replacing the distributor in my allis CA i don't know how the gears should match up. help please!

Check for the compression stroke for number one cylinder and get the TDC or CENTER line in the center of the inspection hole. Set the distributor down in the hole with the rotor pointing to the number one plug terminal when all the way down. With the power on rotate the distributor base back and fourth looking for the spark at the points. Lock the distributor down when you have the points closed just at the point that they are about to open.
